We are pleased to inform you that our contractor has completed the installation of new bollards and electricity meters in the inner east marina, and final testing is in process. From 1 April 2011 the only way for permanent berth holders to buy electricity in the marina will be via metered supplies either via the new fixed metered bollards or via metered leads.
The new system of fixed metered bollards will require users to pay the quarterly standing charge per our tariff. For 2011-12 this will be £26.50 including VAT per quarter. This will be invoiced.
Units of electricity will have to be paid for in advance, and so the important point is customers who wish to ensure a smooth transition onto the new system should contact the Harbour Office and arrange to purchase whatever value of units they think they will need to meet their requirement for whatever future period they consider appropriate. The price per unit is currently 8.8pence per kWh including VAT at 5%.
In those areas under the new system there will no longer be any requirement for metered leads and these will be withdrawn as soon as possible after the switchover on 1 April, and the metered lead deposits will be credited to the customers’ accounts. The electricity used per the returned metered lead will be invoiced and is payable in the normal way.
Should a credit balance remain after these transactions we can either refund the sum or it can be used to buy units in the new system as the customer wishes.
Customers whose vessels currently have non-metered supplies and wish to continue to be supplied with electricity will either be in locations where the new system has been installed and so will transfer onto it paying the quarterly and unit charges above and should contacting us to buy units in advance, or they will need to take electricity via metered lead whereby the same quarterly and per unit charges will apply, but instead of the units being payable in advance they will be billed in arrears, and the customer will have to pay the metered lead refundable deposit of £100 in advance.
Each berth where the new system has been installed will be allocated a socket. It will not be possible to plug into any other socket unless this is arranged via the Harbour Office, contact details below.
Subject to availability anyone wanting more than one supply will be accommodated but additional quarterly charges and deposits will be payable.
PIN numbers, fobs, and guidance notes as to how to use the new system will be issued on Friday 1 April 2011 and sent out in the post.
It is useful for us to have e-mail addresses for our customers generally, but it is particularly important with the new system so that the automatic “running low” message can be transmitted to you by the system so that you can top up your units and avoid an interruption in the supply. The system will initially be set to remind customers when there is either £4 worth left or 20% of their last purchase whichever is higher. The message will read:-
"Please be advised that the system has detected that you only have £4 worth of electricity or if higher 20% of your last top-up remaining and that depending on your rate of consumption you need to contact Ramsgate Marina to top up your account to avoid service interruption."
Boat park users will continue to be charged an electricity inclusive tariff until we have metering infrastructure in that area.
We appreciate that this transitional phase may seem complicated but it is intended to provide a fairer system of charging for electricity. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Please note that all items stored around or on top of any containers must be removed and placed within the container. Any miscellaneous items left about in the Container yard will be removed.
Please ensure that your vessel has up to date insurance cover for a minimum of £1,000,000 at all times, a copy of your current certificate must be forwarded to the harbour office to be held on file. This is a requirement of The Ramsgate Royal Harbour Marina Terms and Conditions as stated on your Mooring Licence Application form.
Would all harbour users and store holders please observe the double yellow line parking restrictions around the harbour. There are currently significant problems with vehicles of all kinds parking in Military Road obstructing the carriageway.
The only vehicles permitted to park on the commercial jetty are:
1. those with the express permission of the Dock Master or
2. those attending the life boat during an emergency call out.
Would inner marina permit holders please try to park their vehicles in the area behind the control barrier to the western end of the cross wall, thank you.
TDC will carry out parking enforcement measures where parking restrictions are breached.
Would anyone who witnesses fly-tipping in or around the harbour please assist us by recording any details such as registration numbers and advise the Harbour Office.
