Ramsgate praised by water ski organisers
Ramsgate has been praised for having
facilities that are “second to none” by the organisers of the
European Water Ski Racing Championships.
Racing finished on Saturday (12 July), after
three days of competition, which was affected by the weather, with
the first day’s racing cancelled on Sunday 6 July. Around 90 skiers
took to the waters and in total, around 400 team members from
Britain, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Germany, France and Austria were
in Ramsgate for the week long event.
Racing included Formula 1, 2 and 3 classes,
ladies, seniors, juniors and Eurokids from the age of 12 upwards.
Britain’s Kim Lumley won the women’s F1 race, with the GB team also
taking second place in both Eurokids races, women’s F2, seniors and
men’s F3. Great Britain finished second in the European Nations
Trophy, with Belgium first and Austria taking third place.
Tony Williams, the British Water Ski Chairman
of Racing and GB Team Captain, said: “The facilities at Ramsgate
have been second to none. It’s been a superb location, with shops
and restaurants near to the harbour and I have really enjoyed the
time we’ve spent here and I’m sure that the competitors have as
well. Everyone’s worked so hard preparing for this event and have
made us all very welcome at Ramsgate. The races have all been
injury free, which is the main thing and, despite the frustrating
start to the week, we did manage to get some great racing in later
in the week. I’ve been very pleased with GB team and their
performances throughout the week.”
Alan Goggin is the representative of the
President of the EAME region (Europe, Africa and Middle East), the
governing body of the sport. He said: “Ramsgate has got a great
deal going for it and it’s got some superb facilities, with lovely
cafés and restaurants. As a visitor, I’ve really enjoyed my time in
the town.”
